The purchasing decision

Dry tube freight planning starts with the bag as it will be shipped. A filled product photo does not provide the dimensions of a folded unit, and a nominal litre capacity does not provide carton volume. Ask for a packed sample that includes straps, instructions and the chosen retail presentation.

Confirm the fold direction and how buckles or reinforced areas sit inside the pack. Then record the number of retail units per carton, the mixed-colour arrangement and the external carton dimensions. Keep gross weight separate from product weight. If several models share a shipment, identify whether cartons remain single-SKU or contain a controlled assortment.

Use the agreed packing data when comparing freight estimates and purchase orders. A supplier change to packaging can affect receiving, storage and distribution even when the bag itself is unchanged. Keep the carton mark, packing list and SKU schedule consistent so an importer can check the shipment without opening every retail unit.

Include these details in your enquiry

  • Packed sample and fold method
  • Units per carton by SKU
  • Outer dimensions and gross weight
  • Carton marks and mixed-colour schedule

Identify the model and the version of any drawing or artwork. Ask for assumptions, proposed changes, packing details and commercial terms to be shown in the quotation. MOQ, sample cost and production timing are confirmed for the agreed configuration.

Buyer questions

Can freight be estimated from dry bag capacity?

Use actual packaging data. Product capacity and shipment volume describe different things.

What should be rechecked after packaging changes?

Review the retail unit, carton count, external dimensions, gross weight and label schedule before updating freight calculations.
