The purchasing decision
A capacity assortment should describe what the customer carries, not just the number printed on a bag. Start with a few packed-content examples: small personal items, a change of clothing, or a larger outdoor kit. Ask the supplier to show how those examples fit with the closure operated as instructed. The space needed to close the bag is part of practical use.
Compare body proportions as well as nominal volume. A tall narrow tube and a wider short bag may carry differently and may suit different retail channels. Handle placement, shoulder strap length and exterior storage can become more important as the packed load grows. Review each size rather than assuming the largest model demonstrates the entire range.
Use the sample findings to decide the opening quantity for each SKU. Avoid overloading the initial order with closely spaced sizes that have no clear difference in customer use. If the marketing range will include capacities such as 5L, 10L, 20L or 30L, confirm the available models and agreed measurement basis instead of assigning those numbers to an unrelated reference photo.
What to compare before ordering
| Decision | Review with the supplier | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Packed example | List actual items and closure clearance. | Evaluate usable space. |
| Body proportions | Compare height, mouth width and base. | Match the bag to packing and carry needs. |
| Range planning | Give each size a customer role. | Quote quantities by SKU. |
Include these details in your enquiry
- Target size list and packed-content examples
- Closure instructions used during evaluation
- Strap and handle changes between sizes
- Order split by capacity and colour
Identify the model and the version of any drawing or artwork. Ask for assumptions, proposed changes, packing details and commercial terms to be shown in the quotation. MOQ, sample cost and production timing are confirmed for the agreed configuration.
Buyer questions
Are nominal litres the same as usable packing space?
Not necessarily. The opening and closure procedure can affect how much can be packed comfortably. Evaluate the intended contents in a closed sample.
Should I stock every capacity a supplier offers?
Choose capacities that solve distinct customer needs and fit the retail channel. More variants can make replenishment and stock management harder.
